The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is hosting a virtual workshop on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 4:15 PM ET titled "Implementation Research and Next Steps for Direct-to-Consumer Telehealth: Understanding Current Utilization, Lessons Learned & Opportunities." The event aims to assess the current evidence of direct-to-consumer telehealth, identifying gaps and opportunities to inform and advance future implementation and dissemination research.
The workshop will address the evolution of telehealth, sustainable healthcare delivery, health equity in rural and underserved areas, transformative technologies like AI and remote monitoring, and data-driven decision-making. The event is open to researchers, healthcare providers, policymakers, technologists, and community organizations interested in improving telehealth practices and policies through evidence-based insights and collaborative strategies. Esteemed speakers from various fields will share their expertise, ensuring a rich learning experience for all attendees.
Workshop Objectives:
- Evolution and Best Practices of Telehealth: Understand the rapid changes, key lessons learned, effective telehealth utilization scenarios, and shifts in clinician and patient demographics.
- Health Equity and Access: Discuss strategies to overcome barriers in rural and underserved areas, improve equitable access, and ensure sustainable healthcare delivery.
- Technological Innovations and Infrastructure Challenges: Review innovations like AI, remote monitoring, and wearable devices; identify solutions for reliable connectivity and interoperability; and discuss advancements in mobile health technologies and their integration into telehealth.
- Patient Engagement Considerations: Explore strategies to enhance patient engagement and satisfaction, focusing on communication and inclusivity, and evaluate the role of community partnerships.
- Data Analysis and Future Research Opportunities: Utilize data analysis to inform real-world implementation, identify research opportunities, explore the impact of policy changes on telehealth practices, and improve disease management
