Description
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is hosting a two-day virtual workshop titled “Research Needs to Improve Blood Pressure Assessment in Clinical Practice and Clinical Research Across the Lifespan” on Thursday, December 5th, and Friday, December 6th, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET. Hypertension is an important cardiovascular risk factor and the accurate measurement of blood pressure is essential for the diagnosis and management of hypertension. Six years ago, NHLBI convened a workshop on blood pressure assessment in clinical practice and clinic-based research which provided research recommendations and stimulated research in this important area. At this time, there is a need to evaluate progress and discuss further research directions, including technology developments and blood pressure assessments in special populations. The workshop will convene experts to address current challenges and explore innovative solutions in order to advance the field of blood pressure assessment.
Key Objectives
-
Assess the current state of knowledge on blood pressure assessment in clinical practice and clinical research.
-
Identify knowledge gaps pertaining to current blood pressure assessment methods and identify obstacles on which NIH may be able to make an impact in addressing.
-
Review ongoing research and identify research needs to improve blood pressure assessment in clinical practice and clinical research.
-
Complement and expand on the 2023 workshop on Transforming Hypertension Diagnosis and Management in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.
