Description
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is hosting a two-day virtual workshop titled "A Life Course Approach to Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Health Research: Critical Challenges, Innovations, and Opportunities” on Tuesday, December 3rd, and Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET.
Taking a life course approach to physical activity research, this workshop will convene multidisciplinary investigators, clinicians, and researchers and engage participants in a lively discussion to help set future physical activity priorities. In addition to broadening participants’ exposure to physical activity research as studied across the lifespan (from pregnancy to older adulthood), the workshop will include special topics, such as moving beyond moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, physical activity as a health equity issue with lived experience speakers, and innovative methodology and policy action. The event intends to result in more questions than answers and invigorate participants about the trajectory of physical activity research.
Key Objectives
- Across the Lifespan Approach: Explore recent breakthroughs in physical activity research that expand and integrate the concept of physical activity from during pregnancy through early life and adolescence to all stages of adulthood.
- Health Equity Focus: Examine physical activity research through the lens of cultural and underrepresented groups to highlight how health equity must remain a high priority.
- Future Directions: Account for current challenges and innovative strategies to identify research opportunities that will continue to propel the field forward.
